Build from source files. This was way more work than I usually want to do these days! However it was way less work than trying to fix all of the issues I would have to address on OpenSuse. And Mint’s repositories only offers v2.2 and I wanted the latest version 3.1.2.0. OpenSuse was current and …

Back to Mint
I can’t, or rather I won’t F*ck around with OpenSuse anymore. I’ve wasted too much time struggling from one issue to the next. Most things weren’t bad until some update killed VS Code. It has been downhill since then. So it’s back to my “noob” Mint distro. I never left it anyway was dual booting. …
Crap! Crap! Crap! Crap! Crap!
Those words in the title originally started with F and ended with K. Ok since VLC doesn’t work I thought I’d install another multimedia player. You know to play multimedia! So I installed Celluloid…assuming it would install what was necessary to play multimedia. So I installed it and tried to play a mp4 video. And …
Reinstall Tumbleweed
Did not fix VLC codec problems. Come on if VLC is installed then it should play videos especially MP4s. Since their website says “VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files “How about some common sense defaults. Why do I have to Google to get this …
Really getting annoyed with OpenSuse
However I think many of my complaints really are with KDE. Hot corners or Screen Edges as KDE calls them, stop working. And now my System monitor which I always want to start only in Virtual window 4…starts in all desktops. I right click on the title bar and select Move to Desktop and All …
Random browser connection problems
I don’t know why I’m just now mentioning this…but. I’m having random Firefox connection problems “Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site.” in Firefox on OpenSuse Tumbleweed probably since I started using this distro. But it’s not tied to every site. Refresh…same thing. Open in new tab…same thing. It’s mostly annoying. Usually I’ll restart Firefox …
Out of the blue Mint starts in 9 seconds.
The last couple lines of dmesg. The last line was clearly not part of getting to the signon screen… [ 9.284895] input: HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm=9 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.2/0000:1d:00.1/sound/card0/input25[ 9.284953] input: HDA NVidia HDMI/DP,pcm=10 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.2/0000:1d:00.1/sound/card0/input26[ 9.399307] resource sanity check: requesting [mem 0x000c0000-0x000fffff], which spans more than PCI Bus 0000:00 [mem 0x000c0000-0x000dffff window][ 9.399426] caller os_map_kernel_space.part.0+0x77/0xa0 [nvidia] …

youtube-dl download speed issues
For several days now downloading YouTube videos with youtube-dl has been very slow, like 40-80kbps instead of my usual 500-800kbps. So a 30MB file is taking 10min. I don’t suspect Linux, I’m guessing that perhaps YouTube itself is throttling the speed. I think there is a switch I can use to have youtube-dl report it …
Tumbleweeds and distro’s in general latest problems
The latest failure…there has been so many this last month! I just realized that many Twitter and Instagram videos are not playing in Firefox. And once again my noob distro, Linux Mint is working fine. All I can say is wow! I haven’t seen so many Linux distro problems in many a year. I know …

Made a change now Mint boots in ~40sec instead of 2min.
Even though I didn’t specifically see anything in the dmesg that pointed to the UUID problem, I still suspected it was related because it feels similar. So I went looking and found the swap file defined in Mints /etc/fstab had a wrong UUID. Probably because when I recently reinstalled Tumbleweed I formatted swap. So I …
