Started modifying PRIMCOB1 for DOS/VS

Well this is turning out harder than expected. I basically expected minor ENVIRONMENT and DATA DIVISION issues between MVS and DOS. Not data and logic issues. I mean IBM COBOL should basically be IBM COBOL. But Noooooooooooo! I wanted to make a few small changes like accepting input from the console. And I wanted to …

Scanner kinda works

I took a slight diversion from what I was doing, and saw this solution for another scanner… I did the last 2 and a popup said something like “HP 4500 added” after I plugged the scanner in. Xsane still failed but seemed to try. However Simple-scan (called Document scanner in the menu) scanned a image. …

VM EE editor

Trying to find some info on this editor. I thought I saw somewhere, where you could move the current line and ruler from the ridiculous center to the sensible top. Maybe not? You know like just about every editor does. I mean even the bottom would be better than the middle. Good info here. I …

My COBOL compile REXX exec works!

Now that I solved my DOS/VS JCL reclen & REXX problem, I successfully created my COBOL compile REXX exec, that wraps the JCL around the COBOL source and submits it to DOS/VS. I never liked storing the compile JCL with the source. The COBOL source library should only be source, IMHO. With this program working, …

OBS Studio recordings look better

Changed output encoder from NVIDIA back to X264 (I think that’s where it was) and now it’s acceptable.

DOS/VS JCL reclen & REXX

Several things I discovered. My old REXX COMPILE EXEC…doesn’t work on VM/370CE and DOS/VS as written! I was using a newer VM and DOS, probably SP. I discovered the QUEUE statements require the string to be 80 characters. So I must pad them first. I also found that the EE editor doesn’t create fixed length …

Screen event record/playback

Played with cnee a little today…pretty cool. I can think of a few interesting uses.

OBS Studio recordings look terrible

After latest Mint update. Watch a YouTube settings video. First thought is the output encoder, assume set to NVIDIA will probably make a big difference. No…that’s not it…running like a dog. Not recording much. Practically useless.
