For several days now downloading YouTube videos with youtube-dl has been very slow, like 40-80kbps instead of my usual 500-800kbps. So a 30MB file is taking 10min. I don’t suspect Linux, I’m guessing that perhaps YouTube itself is throttling the speed. I think there is a switch I can use to have youtube-dl report it is a certain browser. [-user-agent UA Specify a custom user agent]. I tried that and it asked me “Type account password and press [Return]:”. yt-dlp seems to work and is a fork of youtube-dl. See the link for useful switches. So this means one thing is for sure…YouTube has identified youtube-dl, and is slowing it down, at least for now.
