I opened an issue, concerning the previous post, and the developer responded…since SDLTRS 1.2.26 the Model I emulation no longer boots directly into BASIC if there is no disk image specified for drive :0, but asssumes the “Expansion Interface” is “connected”: you have to press BREAK (ESC on the PC) a few times while booting …

Forked version of SDLTRS
I said recently that I would no longer use SDLTRS. However… Doing further research into reading WAV files in a TRS-80 emulator, I came across this. Which talks about SDL2TRS (The article calls it SDLTRS32 although further down it’s called SDLTRS2) which says it can read WAV files. It’s based on SDLTRS (This is the …
TRS-80 online emulator
In playing with trs80-tools…I mean researching 🙂 I bounced up to the home page and found a TRS-80 emulator. If you click on the folder icon at the top, there are a library of TRS-80 software, such as Dancing Demon that you can run in the browser. Below is a simple program I wrote.
Testing trs80-tools
Being a little proactive to learn it’s usage. trs80-tools works on wav files…not mp3 files. The cassette player I ordered converts cassette to MP3s. I’m assuming I might have to play with the output volume when creating the mp3 file. First used ffmpeg to convert mp3 to wav. ffmpeg -i input.mp3 output.wav You can also …
WordPress open link in new tab
The last update of WordPress seemingly removed a feature I used all the time. Open link in new tab. Because it’s not available when creating the link, as it previously was. However in editing a link in the previous post…I see the option is available.
Ordered cassette player for TRS-80 project
Talked about it here. Was only $20 on ebay. This is something I’ve been putting off. Partially because the chances are pretty high I won’t be successful. One thing for sure…If I don’t even try, I’ll be 100% unsuccessful.
Nasty brown-out a few days ago
Computer went down but memory stick lights still on. They’re off when I shut down normally. It took longer than usual to come back up. But it did. Whew! This reminded me of the old days where the file system was probably ext (as opposed to ext4) and it probably wouldn’t recover…even with fsck.
X’s Grok
Just thought I’d mention that Elon Musk is creating an AI component to X (formally Twitter), called Grok. This is fairly recent news.
Kitchen Tech
How did I go all these years without a digital kitchen scale? I had a manual…highly inaccurate scale I used for years. Somehow I tried to convince myself that it was somewhat accurate. I usually had to tap the side for the needle to move to a more convincing looking weight. Not surprisingly the individual …
Thorium – not so great…for me
Talked about it here. I used it briefly. Turns out not to be the best choice for me. Speed isn’t everything. Should have clarified this sooner. Found that out fairly quickly, within a few days.
