Linux cheap ink printer

I saw a Shaq commercial for a Epson EcoTank. It’s supposed to be much cheaper on ink because it doesn’t use cartridges. I’ve only bought HP for many years, because they worked well with Linux. Probably the last non HP printer I bought was an Epson dot matrix, back in the TRS-80 days.

But now that HP no longer supplies a driver for my old but perfectly fine printer…but more importantly has become a printer Nazi. They can kiss my butt. By that I mean I’ve read about them disabling a printer if a consumer looks at them the wrong way. I hate strong arm tactics. Just google and you will see topics such as “Why HP Can Remotely Disable Printers If You Cancel a $4.99 Monthly Subscription”.

Contemplating getting a Epson EcoTank printer for my Linux. I read a Amazon review that said “works in linux mint as networked printer”. That’s fine but I’d hope it also works with USB. I don’t need my printer networked. If I want to print from another device, I’ll send it to Linux and print from there.

I see also there is a Canon MegaTank printer. But I haven’t looked at the details. They may have an advantage in that they have a screen, so you don’t have to use a smartphone, like the Epson.
