IMSAI 8080 & Altair 8800

Build these classic iconic retro computers…in emulation : )

Downloaded z80pack release 1.37 here on GitHub.

Here’s his YouTube channel.

The 2 images below are the 2-D models, the IMSAI defaults to 3-D as in my previous video, press V to toggle 2D/3D. The Altair 8800 only has 2-D.

Install

The install instructions README-frontpanel.txt in the doc/ directory are fairly straight forward. Except 1 step was missing. You need to run make in z80pack-1.37/webfrontend/civetweb/ before running the Makefile.operating.system (I substitute linux for operating.system), further down in the installation guide.

Also I had to run sudo ldconfig before running the sims.

IMSAI 8080

The WarGames movie computer. I had built this one before, here. This version is 1 point higher than the previous one I built.

bill@bill-MS-7B79:~/Downloads/Computers/Emulation/IMSAI 8080/z80pack-1.37/imsaisim$ ./boot

This works the same as in the video. However the current instructions don’t show the boot method, I used in the video.

I tried microchess…

…but I’m staying away from Thermonuclear War : )

ALTAIR 8800

For some reason I didn’t originally build this one, last time, which is my Popular Electronics cover picture.

This doesn’t match the picture on the famous cover. Perhaps the cover was pre production?
