Light and studying?

Researched way to dump S/370 storage and show registers in MVS Assembler. Found SNAP, similar to the PDUMP macro I used in VSE, but harder to use than I remember PDUMP being. Very useful debugging and learning tool. Did finally get it to work, but not to it’s full abilities.

Let there be light!

Later that night I decided I wanted to look at my old 370 Assembler books…I found 4 so far. Specifically because I wanted to review the handeling of numeric data. I tried sitting in my living room in front of the TV. Yes for some reason that has been a good way for me to study. Tired of always sitting at my computer in the kitchen. But the lighting in my living room is bad. I shift in my chair, right and left straining my eyes, trying to find sufficient light to read. My living room has always been on the dark side, because I’m a bit of a vampire. Anyway, I thought…enough! So I started to think of a way to fix this problem.

I came accross an adjustable old mike stand stand that I think belonged to my musician son…who has moved away. It seemed a little bound up. So I took it apart and WD-40’d it and got it to work. Next I took a old shop light and attached it to it with ty-wraps. Wow…it worked great. I could see! I now quickly found info about binary and packed data and it mostly matched what I remember about that process. I few things I will have to put more time into such as ED and EDMK and others. I also found a much clearer explanation of the SNAP macro than I found on the Internet. I learned more in 20 minutes with old text books than I did all day using the internet, That probably won’t always be true. Now that I see how important light can be, I will probably spend < $30 for a more living room acceptable looking floor light.
