Drones

The previous post about self flying drones, got me interested in drones in general. It’s an interesting topic. But if I was going to buy a drone, I think I’d be more likely to just buy a regular drone. The drone I mentioned was over $300. And for $300 i could buy the very nice DJI Mini 4K… see I’ve been researching. Keywords “if I was going to buy a drone”. In my city living, house only a few feet from the next house, I wouldn’t be able to fly it here anyway. Nor would I want to piss off my neighbors. I may only intend to be doing this for fun, but they don’t know this. Flying over someone’s house seems creepy. No… these drones are better in open areas.

I previously mentioned that “my kids bought me a drone a few years ago”. My experience flying it was terrible. I don’t think your small property, or at least my small property, is a good place for a beginner to practice. You really need a large relativity empty property, to practice… IMHO.

As I’m writing this I have learned that there may be a ban on future DJI drones, apparently it has to do with national security, because these drones are from China. Good thing I’ve basically talked myself out of buying one.

This brings me to a related topic. I almost forgot, but writing this entry reminded me. My power company a month or 2 ago sent out info that they were going to be using drones, with licensed drone pilots (I don’t remember when) to check the power lines.
