I have an interest in astronomy. And I use to use this program, to see where objects in the sky were, at my location. So I started it and I was lost. What’s happening to my brain? I remember using it to go forward in time so I could see where objects would be later in time. I don’t remember the last time I used it. But apparently I had already set it up for my location. I did remember there were settings on the left and bottom left.
Here is where you set your location using latitude and longitude.

I saw the VCR like play button (below), and pressed it…but nothing happened. The Fast Forward button was the one I was looking for, but it appeared greyed out, so I didn’t press it. And I should have because it did increase time. I should have remembered it but I didn’t. You can also just press J (backward) or L (forward) keys. If you want to make a big date/time start, you can click on the clock icon (below the red box above). So for example, you could view the sky as it was on your birthday.

In the early morning, I like watching the sky as it is, because you can start to see it get lighter as the sun rises. An hour earlier you could hardly see the horizon, because everything was black.
I frequently get up early, and with the shade down and curtain drawn, sometime you don’t notice it getting light. Looking at this I can see it’s almost time to turn my front porch lights off. I also have the default view pointing east… the view out my front window.
