IBM/Redhat

Thoughts on IBM leadership change, especially with IBM recently acquiring Redhat. With Ginni Rometty (the 1st female CEO at IBM), to step down in April and Red Hat CEO Jim Whitehurst’s (formally from Delta) IBM promotion to President…what does that mean for IBM? Many on the Linux community had hoped Jim would step into Genni’s position. However Arvind Krishna who comes from the technology sector, and who has been with IBM a long time gets her position. Is the mainframe as we know it on the way out? Hopefully not, at least as far the OS offerings are concerned. Could a shift towards a more opensource philosophy be a good thing for IBM? Could there be more of a chance that IBM would at the very least release some of their older OS’s? Does the fact that all of the top 500 most powerful supercomputers, the last few years run Linux, mean anything? IDK, these are bigger questions than I can fathom. As a 25+ year Linux user and with a IBM mainframe career past, I find it interesting though!
