Nostalgia

It’s fun to look back to see how far we’ve come. However I’d like to think I’m not stuck in the past. Every now and then I want a taste of Nostalgia. I don’t want to dwell there too long because there are better/newer things coming out all the time. There is constantly something new to learn. I mean really is there a case today where I’ve ever thought COBOL would be the best tool for a problem I’m working on, in my daily life? No! It’s a great language for IBM mainframes though. I’m glad I learned 360/370 Assembler but are there many practical uses, outside mainframes for it today! No! I’m already using something pretty old…Python for many tasks, first released in 1991, so it’s almost 30 years old, but COBOL which was designed in 1959 predates it by over 30 years! However as you can see by my earlier posts I really like a fairly new language, much like Python…Julia!
